Chess Heights Monthly
  Chess Heights has started this year with a bang. Cooperating with Ultimate Chess we initiated the first ever monthly classical tournament in Nigeria. The first edition took place on the second day of this year and it was a feast of well thought out games with Demola Sorungbe emerging the winner. When it finally took place, chess players were faced with high registration cost which included paying for an identity card that many paid for the year before and didn’t receive. The story of July’s ‘Friends of Chess’ is now out. The July 2009, friends of chess took place at the (now permanent venue of the swan building in the national stadium, Surulere Lagos on the 11th July. A total of 76 players registered for the event with 70 actually showing up to play. (The heavy downpour in Lagos a few hours before the event did not help matters). The breakdown was 20 masters, 7 female and 43 opens players of which 14 were newcomers. Read More


 

71 ambitious teams, over 300 elite students and a full school year, September 2008 - May 2009; the Nigeria International Schools Chess League has for the 6th year running been the number 1 chess league in West Africa. That is not the intention of the organizers though; all they wish is to provide intellectually stimulating and character developing competition on a regular basis to school children whose minds are being groomed. Chessheights is at its impeccable wit again; co-organizing a classical tournament for some of Nigeria’s strongest chess players namely Adebayo Adegboyega, Charles Campbell, Bunmi Olape, Ajibola Olanrewaju, Tunji Rojugbokan and Demola Sorungbe.
